I've just had the strangest thing happen to me. I applied for 2 roles within the space of 2-3 days. One at a major bank and one at a big strategy consulting firm.

The roles are very similar and are in a niche area. I have been building a profile in this little niche for a while now and felt I was a very close fit to the roles

I had a screening interview / chat with the HR from the bank and it all seemed positive with the HR lady telling me to contact her again in a few days. No response since, phone seems to be permanently go to voicemail and no response to emails

Again, with the strategy consulting firm. They got in touch, wanting to arrange an initial interview and then all of a sudden stopped responding to emails also.

Obviously it's not some big conspiracy! Just want to draw a line under it, but trying to make some sense of it. Do I continue chasing up with them or just take it as a very unprofessional rejection.

Not at all uncommon for recruiting plans to be put on hold at the drop of a hat whenever there are market jitters. Radio silence often follows as the recruiters may not have the authority to green light recruitment being restarted - but don't want to have a follow-up conversation until they have more concrete news to share. Given what's been happening in the markets of late, I'd be surprised if it's more than that.

Thanks for the response Tony, I hope that's all it is. Been waiting for a response for a couple of weeks now, so I'll just sit tight for now
