As a recent graduate with a upper class second honours degree in management, i am actively looking to pursue a career in management consulting. From the response i have received from having applied to several firms, not all in this profession, it seems that i lack something these organisations require!! Is it the fact that i graduated from the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside, which would make it a class and league table issue? Or is it down too these organisations just being more thorough when looking for applicants, due to the downturn in the industry?

Hi there!

i am german but have studied in the uk (undergrad and postgrad) business and management from a rather small and unknown university. i am currently working as a management consultant in germany for one of the top5. it really seems that in the uk the class and league issues is an issue. they wont even consider looking at your applicationa if you are not from a "target university". i think thats stupid....and they might miss out on some good graduates.

i suggest u getting some experience in an industry/line environment. i am currently looking for another job myself as i cant stand this bullshitting all the time anymore....

anyways, good luck to you

Maybe it is the fact you have an upper class degree from one of the lower class universities. Most firms look for a minimum of an upper second from a leading school!
