One of my clients is a consultancy in the North of England. They've asked me to help recruit someone to set up an in-house market research and surveys function. Normally this isn't something I'd handle but hey, times are hard....
My problem is: what is the going rate for such a person? This firm pays its consultants about 2/3rds of the salary they'd make if they were London based. My contacts in London say someone with about 5 years MORI-type experience in market research should be making £55-60k, so I've been advertising the job at about 2/3rds that rate, ie £35-40k. There have been no takers so far, so I'm wondering if I have got the salary level completely wrong. Any ideas?
