Accenture MC Products or Capco FS?

Hi,

I've been using this thread to get insights and updates and has been of immense help. I now need some help of my own.

I'm a little bit at a crossroads and needing to make a career decision on whether to stay with Accenture or take on new roles and responsibilities at a competing firm, Capco.

My dilemma is that I've been offered a Principal Consultant (at M2 equivalent to Acn) within the FS space, particularly cap markets but as it's always greener on the other side, it is always sometimes better the devil you know than the devil you don't!

I'm currently in discussion about further growth in Acn vs Capco. My background is a mix between Automotive and FS.

My question is, from all the folks out there in Accenture and those who have jumped ship from Accenture to Capco, how has your experience been?

Appreciate your honest answers.

What level are you at Accenture. How much are you currently paid? What is the new offer? If you stay, how long until you reach that money internally?

I have also heard some pretty bad reviews about Capco. People sitting at desks at 8pm playing the presenteeism game. Happy days.

I'm a C3 currently with a potential for M1 promotion end of year performance cycle. If I stay with Accenture, it will probably take a couple of years to reach the current offer. It is approx 35% higher salary on offer and a higher position (M2).

I am working internally to see if Acn can match or closely match the offer, however this is still a 50/50 possibiilty whether they can or not.

I guess my bigger question rather than just monetary, what am I going to get myself into if I join Capco... Will I want to leave after a month or is it somewhere that I can spend a couple of years and try to make SM.

I would go with the better monetary offer. Have seen people move from capco to acn and vice versa. Unless you burn bridges, no reason why you can't return to acn in a more senior rank

Thank you mbb_cat. So far it looks like it's going to be that way, as acn still dragging their feet to provide a good reason for me to stay and not take other offer. Still like you mention, there is always room to come back in the future.

I dont know why you wouldn't take it. Promotion is far from guaranteed, especially with the new process where I get the feeling nobody really knows how it is going to work.

Alternatively you have an offer in an area which interests you on a far higher salary and grade. Seems a no brainer to me unless you get some stone wall assurances from Accenture, which I would suggest is highly unlikely.

hi Jack Black, yes at the moment it is looking like that. I've been passed for promotion already and it seems like its a shot in the dark whether the new practice will actually deliver on assurances to support me for long term growth. you're right the new process is still a very big grey area and very mismanaged which is why i haven't been considered for promotion in mid-year cycle. I will report back on how capco is once i start for anyones benefit.

Ex-Accenture folk are apparently given preferential treatment at capco due to their accenture roots, makes for lots of discontent but not that you'll be complaining. Although some of the ex-Accenture leaders have been fired or demoted so its debatable how much leverage your past will provide. Lastly You should do more research before you accept Capco (here/glassdoor) it masquerades as a consultancy and effectively is nothing more than a a body shop. There are consultancy roles but you have part of the in-crowd to access them and even then they are few and far between. They will however (more or less accept) any wage demands you may have so if you do choose to join go in at your highest, i know a PC who was on between 85-90K and a SC on 70-75K.

Hi meF, thanks for your feedback. This will be very useful, however sometimes I wonder if any of the big consulting firms are other than body shop at times especially when you're on big accounts. this can be same at acn and the best sexy consulting roles are reserved for the in crowd too. although there are more sexy consulting roles due to the size. Though I appreciate your insight.

The biggest problem is that acn have come in with a counter-offer which is very very low compared with what capco offerd (and your bracket for a PC is right give or take). I be going in as a PC mind you. What acn offered as an internal transfer is actually less then if I join from externally so I question whether it is just to stay at acn or move out and eventually use my alumni status and network to move back to acn if capco doesnt work out.

To be honest leaving such a big chunk of money on the table for acn to take me for a ride would be rude, though I know that my time may be short or not depending as you put whether I get with the incrowd or not.
