New offer VP of strategy; currently up for Manager promotion at big 4

Hello all,

I am currently at a big 4 with strong support from leadership for my Manager promotion this year. I have also received a job offer of VP of strategy at a bank, I was referred to this position by an old boss I had worked with early on in my career.

I have always wanted to be part of the strategy group but never got a chance. Also, I was afraid that if I switched my practice I may have to start from the ground up. This offer seems to be an excellent opportunity with better compensation than what I currently have. However, should I stay at the big 4 and earn the credentials of a manager to make myself more marketable or is a VP at a bank equivalent to the rank of a manager at a big 4? Please advise.

VP is the Manager grade. It wouldn't make much sense to stay (with less compensation) for a promotion to Manager which isn't even guaranteed, and lose the opportunity to move out into the same level role, at the very destination you'll want after promotion to Manager at Big 4 anyway.

Big 4 - Bank VP - ? makes you more marketable than Big 4 - Manager Big 4 - Bank VP

You would still be moving across at VP level even if you had already won the promotion to Manager within Big 4 anyway, so go for it.
