I recently started interviewing with Capgemini for a role that they described as "manager level" in the US. More specifically it will be a role related to data science, which is what I work in now. My only previous consulting experience is with Accenture, also in the US, where I did a college internship and worked for about 8 months just after graduating college. So I know a little about this "world" but I'm not deeply immersed in it.
My question is, if I take a Capgemini manager role, what can I expect? Will my life be good? Will my job be interesting? Will I be a manager in name only, or will I have a huge team of loyal and competent people at my beck and call? (i.e. how many people report to a typical manager?) I read elsewhere online that at Capgemini, promotions are based on who you know rather than how good you are, and that the bench is a painful experience there. Does anyone else find that these criticisms are true, or are there other things I should be worried about? And of course the obvious question: what kind of salary and bonus would be reasonable to aim for?
