Looking for career advice for these two IT jobs

Sen

Hi all,

Would really appreciate it if anyone can share some of your views on these two choice.

Will go on-board for an IT security consultant role soon whilst seem to get another offer from a UK retail bank, also IT role. Struggling in choosing between, in terms of long term career development.

IT consulting company

Pros:

seems bigger package than the bank one as I haven't got details about the bank one

will be working on an emerging market, security consultant, company seems to look good at the market growth, therefore quite a few openings still there.

will be the 6th person to get in the team, so might still have some potentials. my boss was the same role 3 years ago and was then promoted to managing consultant.

Cons:

not very strong tech consultant brand

entry level consultant package

Bank engineering role

Pros:

it's engineering department instead of support team, so means there could be a lot to do.

financial industry, could go to some other companies from here, but it will be at least after two years time.

Cons:

away from London, it's in Cheshire.

will get my hands dirty again as I can see a lot of scripting work. Was trying to get a bit more distant from tech bits, closer to business bits, but not likely with this role.

was aiming for B5 but due to lack of management skills, was down to B4, meaning package will be less than my current offer. it's Barclays.

common bureaucracy? not sure about future progression difficulty.

Long term goal, is to see more about the IT consulting industry and someday maybe start my own with several good partners. Experiences with Banks would be quite beneficial.

What do you guys think?

Many thanks,

Sen

Hi Sen,

If you hate scripting work then I would like to suggest you go for retail bank. In future IT industry will grow like nothing and at that time IT consulting industry will top of the world.

Thank You
