I want to apply for a job advertised on a client's website. I successfully worked for the client on a diffciult assignment recently and I know the head of the practice (even if not well) and some of his more junior colleagues. Shall I apply directly or trough HR? And if directly shall I call or email? And who shall I address my application to, the head of the practice or one of the middle managers - I have 4 years experience only.. Thanks

The recruitment team would probably prefer a direct application, but it might be more effective to go via one of your contacts in the business. If they thought you were good, they would probably refer you to HR (probably earning themselves a financial bonus by doing so).

Thank you. Shall I call one of the middle managers? I could say hello I am such and such, I worked with you and now exploring new job opportunities at ... I would like to ask you if you know of any possible opening that would match my skills and experience..?

I would be more direct....saying "I have seen the psoition and am/have applying/applied....Have you any advice on how best to proceed?"...this leaves your contact room to manoever and will allow for a more honest answer to your request...Hope this helps

Thanks, this really helped me. I'll let you know if I'll get the job! I would love to work for them cause they look sooo good, but I am also going to the PA Consulting career event on the 20th, is any of you going to be there?
