I have a degree in Economics and have spent the past three years working in the NHS as an economist. I want to move into management consulting. Any advice on how to do this? Should I go through recruitment agencies or approach firms directly?
I reckon you should use the agencies for CV advice/application tips/expected salary, etc, then apply directly to the firms you're interested in. Don't use the middle man if you don't need to. Good luck.
Agreed. Go to an agency just to learn about the current market environment. Consulting firms usually hire directly rather than go through agencies. I would suggest you contact the HR of each consulting firm directly. Show initiative and enthusiasm and you'll be fine!
The best way to jump the queque and maximise the chance of success is to be recommended to the firm by a current employee. I have contacts in all the big four consultancies so if you need help in this area, let me know.
