General Project Management Training Courses

CH

Hello. I am starting to move into a project management role and was wondering if anyone could recommend specific project management training courses? I'd really be most interested in a general best practice project management course that could apply to any industry (I don't plan to be a consultant forever!) and one that is not IT-focussed. Any thoughts gratefully received. Thanks.

Hi CH,

this web site should give you what you need.

I would recommend the Prince 2 Project Management Practitioners course. It is recognised in the industry as a leading best practise approach to delivering projects.

Just 'google' Prince2 and yous should find more details.

As a professional project manager myself I would argue that Prince II is indeed very valuable but is often used in governmental settings as it is often found as "constraining" for many commercial projects. Nevertheless, a Prince II qualification is well sought after and indeed well worth it in order to get a good understanding of a structured approach.

Furthermore, contact the Association of Project Management (http://www.apm.org.uk/), I am sure that they will provide some information on education etc.

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. I had heard of Prince 2, but being in the private sector had always written it off as something built around government needs and requirements. However, I will have more of a look. I've also looked at the other sites you've all suggested and they have plenty of recommended trainers so I will have a trawl through them too. Someone also recommeded the course run by www.indigobusiness.co.uk and said it was very good. Sure that as with many things the best way to learn is on the job, but thanks for your suggestions for training that might help me on my way. Clare
