As far as my brief brush with the then-leading-the-pack IT Risk practice of Deloitte went, I can say the following:
PROs
- human hours for the money
- not a lot of pressure on the workplace
- pretty interesting people, vey, very few people were cocks, probably nobody would have made it past the first round interviews for The Apprentice which is obviously a good thing
- stable industry (it's often tied to audit!)
- ACA if you want to do it
CONs
- mindnumbingly boring and totally uncool assurance work (it's often tied to audit!) unless you get into technical advisory offerings such as security, business resilience and continuity and data
- the possibilities of converting you experience to leave professional services and join industry are absolutely zero unless you do ACA and even then they will mainly be within internal audit of companies or middle office of banks if you really push it
