Strategy consulting deals with providing strategic guidance to organisations. In practice, this can mean:
- elaboration of strategic mission and vision (often in several workshops setting)
- redefinition of new strategic directions e.g. industries served, products and services delivered, territories served (often resulting in new strategy document creation, as well as organisational changes)
- specific business planning (generation of new ideas, creation of business cases)
Often, strategic planning assignments are followed by actual implementation of some first stages of the process (usually by top tier strategy consultancy itself) and some operational aspects (open by larger consulting firms such as Big4).
