What is a strategy project / role?

JoshLyman

I had a discussion with someone last week about what constitutes a strategy role, and how this can differ from firm to firm and sector to sector?

What does strategy consulting mean to you? What are some examples of strategy projects at your firm?

Thanks,

JL.

Dear Josh,

Strategy consulting deals with providing strategic guidance to organisations. In practice, this can mean:

- elaboration of strategic mission and vision (often in several workshops setting)

- redefinition of new strategic directions e.g. industries served, products and services delivered, territories served (often resulting in new strategy document creation, as well as organisational changes)

- specific business planning (generation of new ideas, creation of business cases)

Often, strategic planning assignments are followed by actual implementation of some first stages of the process (usually by top tier strategy consultancy itself) and some operational aspects (open by larger consulting firms such as Big4).

Hope this helps,
