Hi

Recently I have joint a company (here called x company) as full time employment through Robert Walters.

The agent from Robert Walters has gave a lot of good comments about this company and also the company intention to expand the business here.

One of the senior manager from this x company also promised to assign me to an overseas project once the local project completed.

I was hired to take over a consultancy project from a resigned employee.

after a few months, customer has called off the project due to the budget.

The senior manager from x company informed me that he has to terminate my employment as he has no any suitable project for me at the moment.

May I seek your advice on my right on this termination?

I was hired as full time employee and this is unfair to terminate me with the reason given.

hope will receive your advice soon. Thanks

You have the right to notice pay. You do not have any rights re unfair dismissal until you have been employed 12 months except in specific circumstances (see http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/RedundancyAndLeavingYourJob/DG_10026692)

Unfair I am afraid but it happens a lot these days. I joined my last company on the basis of grandiose promises and was made redundant after less than a year.

x company should make it clear that it was hiring contract employee instead of full time employee.

Employer can terminate a contract employee anytime once the project completed.

However they cannot simply terminate a full time employee just because project completed unless it is facing financial problem.

This is the difference between contract and full time.

A responsible employer will hire contract employee when they are not sure whether want to keep the employee when project completed.

The recruiter from Robert Walters is very unethical.

From the day one he already knew this company got problem as since few years ago Robert Walters already helped this company looking for candidates. He knew the history of this company well.

Robert Walters should hire professional recruiter and don’t let such unethical recruiter spoilt the company name. BAD LUCK to meet up such recruiter.
