I'm currently working with a Big 4 - corporate finance but looking to switch to consulting.

I have heard from people that Strategy Consulting is not too dissimilar to Big 4 - transaction services... But at the same time I hear from others that transaction services and strategy consulting are very different things...

So I would really like some information as to what it entails... The research I have found by "googling" seems to be focused more on Commercial Due Diligence (CDD), as opposed to pre-acquisition/post-acquisition and merger integration.

If you do have any information please elaborate.

Many thanks

In that case, it depends.

If you move to the CF / M&A arm of a consultancy, then it may well be quite similar to what you're doing right now.

What most people think of as strategy consulting, however, is rather different from transaction services. For that matter, the majority of management consulting is different from transaction services - ops, org, marketing, whatever.

A strategy consulting project may look at things like: growth strategy, corporate / business unit strategy, innovation, dealing with regulatory change, etc. The work, skills etc. will be quite different - mainly powerpoint land, with limited excel - which is not to say that your skills would not be valued.
