Any insights into the KPMG Strategy Group? They seemed strong a couple of years ago but have gone very quiet.
|
Were they the ones that were "hugely expanding" and had "massive plans for growth"? Just like PWC did/do (or so I've heard)?

Its *Operational* strategy

Could I please ask people to improve their typing on this forum - its starting to obscure the point of the question.
The post above seems to imply that KPMG have a strategy arm, for crying out loud!

I work in Strategy and it is superb team. The only issue is that there is no clear vision of which services we should be providing, into which markets, nor of how to align internal resources to achieve that. Thankfully management have now brought in McKinseys to review our approach and devise a way forward. At that poing I epxect a lot more clarity and for things to move forward again.

I assume you mean the old strategic & commercial intelligence team?
|
Sorry do I understand this correctly? KPMG mngt have bought in McKinsey to review their strategy? There is likely significant overlap in what services KPMG and Mckinsey provide - commercial dd, new market entry assessments etc.
This is a bit like asking Man U to provide some advice to Everton on how they should be competing.......

I think he means that they hired ex top tier strategy consultants, which they do in many countries.
|
As for insights: they have been renamed operations & strategy in some countries and mainly focus on a niche market of Private Equity M&A work.
Work is commercial/strategic due dilligence and operational improvements (sometimes in collaboration with the Business Effectiveness Unit) to get PE clients maximal value out of their investments.
Because of the M&A focus projects tend to be short, a matter of weeks, which means 1) crunch time and 2) a lot of variety in the type of projects. In comparison to the traditional strategy houses, KPMG focuses more on mid-market clients/deals so you'll see less of the huge F500 clients but more national or family firms etc.
Finally, a lot of the CDD work is done from the office as compared to other consultancies. Client interaction is reserved for the more senior levels.

KPMG Strategic & Commercial Intelligence includes the Strategy Group (strategy consulting), Operations Strategy Group, Business Modelling Group and Integration Advisory Group.
SCI is an umbrella for KPMG's strategy related services.

Can I talk to you sometime. I have an interview lined up with the group and want to check what type of projects you work on and any advice you have for me.
