Avanade

Marcus

I'm interested in finding some 'inside' information about Avanade in the UK. Apparently they are a small outfit, around 200-250 consultants, mostly specialists in Microsoft technology. My understanding is that Avanade has traditionally been working closely with Accenture on projects but now they seem to be branching out on their own and expanding their UK workforce.

Is now a good time to join Avanade or is it quite high risk in comparison to one of the big boys (IBM, Accenture etc)? Any notable differences between Avanade and the big consulting houses?

Thanks.

Marcus to fairplay (#2)

I would be joining in a technical management role, project based.

I wonder what two words they joined together to come up with "Avande".

Can't stand the irritating use of the "Z" in the strapline in their logo though - how American is that? Also, their logo seems to feature an "off" button - any ideas why?

Also, their homepage talks about "Big data" or "Big Business" or something like that. Then in the case study for "Citizen Schools" they talk about a sharepoint rollout and how one of the main benefits was that they saved the client $50K of upgrade costs. WTF?

I also don't understand why a new brand name is required for this company. Why not just do it as ACN brand?

It's really quite confusing to me. Any ideas, anyone?

Maybe they're just starting out. Either way, let's hope they do well - the economy desperately needs more good employers right now.

rc to Dave (#5)

they hired some established VPs from Capgemini a couple of years ago so they were definitely trying to build out and up
