Hi, does anyone know Strat Firms in the UK that hire non-Oxbridge graduates? I graduated with a first, blue-chip internship and great extra-curriculars last year from a 2nd tier UK University.

AFAIK, all the top firms will consider non-Oxbridge graduates - I met many in final rounds at McK, BCG, LEK et al. and now in one of the top firms I find that a significant percentage are non-Oxbridge. They might not spend money on big recruitment events but you can just contact their recruitment coordinators directly.

AFAIK, no-one I know from non-Oxbridge Universities got interviews with top firms. For example I heard McKinsey this year only recruited 4 grads, 3 from Oxbridge and one from HBS. Back to the original question, does anyone know smaller Strat Houses that recruit non-Oxbridge grads?

um

Well I'm sitting in an office of one of the top firms where at least half a dozen of the new starters are non-Oxbridge.

That's wonderful, which firm is that? My question is not whether top firms hire Non-Oxbridge, but what smaller Strat firms there are in the UK/London...

Hi gf. Your question "does anyone know Strat Firms in the UK that hire non-Oxbridge graduates?" is very tricky to answer since it assumes an understanding of the recruitment policy of a variety of strat. houses.

However, in a similar position to you (1st from 2nd tier but older), I'll tell you how I've been approaching it. First off, the other guys' reaction suggests that the top ones are elitist- they are and can afford to be. But don't let this stop you approaching them.

Working on the basis that the smaller brands are for the rest of us, I've been approaching a variety of smaller strat. houses (although they have fewer opps). These are: Darwin, Applied Value, Credo, PMSI, OC&C, Parthenon, Diamond Cluster... bear in mind they haven't borne fruit yet so perhaps they are good ones to avoid!

What a rat race job hunting is. Still, beats going to work (?!)

Dear Max & GF, I am a Headhunter who has recruited for strategy houses for 7 years. The current situation is that the market is picking up & they are looking for experienced hires to meet increasing work. There is not much demand, yet, for graduates - they have few people to mentor them etc. As to the question re. Oxbridge or not. Recruiters look for a good degree from a good university. A first from the 'Russell Group' commands attention, unlike a first in 'Media studies' from the University of Bognor - that will get you nowhere!

My other thought. Go and look at the people coming out of McKinsey, Bain etc. they are all immaculately turned out - go and dress the same at interview.

Alas, perseverance is all when job hunting.

Good luck
