Finance move?

Mover

Hi all,

Background:

1 year: Financial DD for big4

3 years: FP&A industry

other: good academics, decent uni, ACA qualified

Been working in industry for 3 years, an exciting place, growing at breakneck speed, great exposure to senior management, direct responsibility etc.

Although happy, I'm getting concerned about the long term prospects, limiting financial reward and lack of brand image. I've also felt that I've strayed from my primary interests in finance.

I would really like to move more towards banking, the old school kind of investment banking and less of the casino side, VC or PE (think debt restructuring, financing, cap markets, IPOs, etc), a mix of research and client exposure would be ideal

So my question is

1. What kind or role should I be targeting?

2. What's the best avenue / research firm to use?

3. How do you rate my chances?

Thanks in advance

anon to Mover (#1)

Try posting your question on efinancialcareers.com or similar. They are more relevant people to ask.

Mars A Day to Mover (#1)

Mover where is the 'old school' of IB these days? Closest you'll get now are vanilla instruments pushed through clearing houses, or else private banking. With your background I suspect you'll get pushed into product control or similar functions - hardly exciting stuff. My suggestion would be to look at firms in the restructuring market - Alix Partners, Alvarez & Marshal, maybe more CF orientated outfits too.
