What is the best route into consulting ...

Kas

After having researched the consulting industry I am now 100% sure that this is the direction I want to take my future career.

Having spent the last 8 years working in industry and with further studies in various parts of the world incl. the US, Europe and the Far East I am now very unsure of what the best route to a career in consulting would be if my main interrest is with companies such as Accenture, IBM, Logica, etc.

I am currently finishing my MBA (part-time) from Manchester Business School (only have the dissertation left) and have started the application process but where do I begin?

I am fairly sure that even though I am just about to graduate I would not enter at a graduate level or ... ?

If I apply as an Experienced Joiner would a CV and a cover letter be accepted and taken into consideration or would I have to apply for a specific open vacancy?

All comments are very much appreciated especially from those already with a consulting company with industry experience prior to joining!

If it is of any help some background information:

I have a B.Sc. in Stats and Econometrics, an M.Sc. in Technology Management and soon an MBA from MBS. My industry experience is mainly from the high tech industry where I have been involved in developing markets for new technologies and developing IT solutions. I am by the way Danish and have lived in the UK for 4 years.

Thanks!
