Consulting jobs/ work experience in UK

#1 Consulting jobs/ work experience in UK

I'm really keen to make a break into the consulting world. I got to the last round of Accenture a month back but missed out on the offer. However, I don't want to give up and feel I have what it takes to be a consultant!

All I need is a bit of direction, luck and a lot of hard work. I'm up for it!

Would anyone be able to help me with the following questions?

- I have one year of IT exposure (working within IT firm in a marketing/ business role), 1st from a non-red brick Uni. What would my chances be of getting into a consultancy?

- As most of the consulting sites I've visited for graduate recruitment, most seem to be close for business. When do most of them open for 2005 recruitment?

- In order to increase my chances of getting into consulting, I am willing to take up unpaid work experience positions which would give me an oppotunity to gain useful insight into the sector. The problem is the work experience process in most cases is harder than the actual job application procedure and much more competitive. Are there any consultants out there who would be willing to give a bright, enthusiastic and hardworking graduate a chance to learn some skills and contribute to their consulting business?

- If I were to prioritise on Companies for graduate applications, which ones would be the top 10 in order of no. of vacancies, in-depth training, career progression and salary?

I would greatly appreciate your response.
