#1 accountant ... then.... strategy consultancy?

I decided to readdress my last post, as had no responses.. trying a different tack!!!

Well, I can't seem to get into the top strategy houses, and have been offered a position working in Transaction Services at a big 4 accountacy firm and the opportunity to study for the ACA... Is there scope to move to strategy on completion, or are paths set?

must be the summer holiday slow-down! re. moving from accountancy into consulting, there are lots of opportunities to make this move at a later stage in your career - but you should be cautioned that moving into strategy consulting from accounting is quite unusual. Strat firms tend to like people that have either come up through the ranks in a strategy consultancy or that have come into strat consulting from a client-side analytical / strategic role in industry. If you are dead set on getting a role at a top strategy firm and can't get your foot in the door now, my advice would be to think of doing some Big 4 work followed by an MBA at a top school. The Big 4 name on your CV should open up the possibility of going to a top business school... and going to a top business school would open the door to a top strategy firm. By contrast, Big 4 straight to Top Strategy firm would be quite an unusual career move to pull off. Best of luck with your decision! Iris
