Maria

Hi, I recently graduated with a first from Surrey University (not top-tier), have solid work experience (IBM internship) but I didn't get any interviews with M/B/B and other strategy firms. Having an offer from Accenture, what would increase my chances for getting hired by strategy consultancies: 1) Joining ACN for a few years or 2) Getting a Masters at a Oxbridge/LSE and re-applying? Thanks for your advice!

Industry experience is *far* more valuable than academic qualifications once you've got your degree - you can prove your worth at Accenture much better and may even get an opportunity to do strategy work, then consider moving around later on. Don't turn down a good opportunity - offers are not common even in the Oxbridge arena. The Cambridge careers service quoted something like 15-30 management consulting offers in one year for all Cambridge graduates a couple of years ago, including Accenture offers.
