Could some one advise on specifics of supply chain (BAS) case study interview at E&Y UK office? I have one coming up shortly hence would need some advise. Also they have give 1.5 hours time for it - not sure, seems to be pretty long....so would be nice to hear on what to expect and how it might be similar or differennt from other case study interviews...thanks

Best advice I can give is not to turn up. We have had a number of redundancies recently and the pipeline is very poor. You will be told something very different at interview, but do your own Due Diligence by speaking to people there and scrolling through threads here. Not a very good place to work at all

Across the consulting industry, Supply Chain is faring worse than most other sectors. If people aren’t buying your goods, then what’s in your supply chain to work on?

It is true F&PM is really struggling, especially now that some of the IBM guys have been pushed aside, and we’ve lost so much of a certain Government client in Southampton, but I can’t imagine Supply Chain is much better.

The 1.5 hrs includes prep time, presentation time, discussion time, and time to consider additional information (if the particular case you're given is a 2-parter)....so it deos not feel too long. The case is very similar to others I saw when I was interviewing elsewere.

Hi SZ,

Thanks so much. it is helpful.

What do mean by 2-parter? something like a mini follow on case in a case?

from your experience can you help me understand why type of case problem can be expected...for example, some thing like you see on strategy firms or rather elaborate with some industry / firm data etc.....I am struggling with the 1.5 hour timing because so far i have done short cases that last only about 30 minutes max.....

Also in E&Y does the interviewer leads the Q&A or analysis phase or the interviewee is supposed to lead by asking questions...?

Any reference you could suggest for supply chain case preparation for E&Y?

2 parts = your given some information to study then the tester comes back does the first part of the assessment and provides additional information which you study and complete the rest of the test

So e,g. the first part of thecase says the clietn has a problem with overstock repeatedly and wants EY to implement a new stock control system. You make ur suggestions then the tester will tell you now the client mentions tat his deliveries r also unrelible so how do you adapt th solution and make a new presetnation???

This isnt a realc ase obv. but its similar.

Thank for both the previous posts, quite helpful to me.

Follow up question - are we supposed to know (for example) all kinds of inventory target , working capital, delivery performance etc formulas and calculate these (ball park) during the case study interview? If I have 2 - 3 days to brush up my tool-kit, how much depth of preparation would you recommend in this regard? Any specifics pls...

If you have been through similar exercise in the past....can you give me a short description of the case situation you encountered?

Yes.

"how much depth of preparation would you recommend "

As much as possible. Understand SCM mkt trends, who are the main players and cliets, what IT solutions for SCM are on the market and their strengths/weaknesse.

Oh dear

Worrying question of the week.

If you are interviewing for a Supply Chain experienced hire job, you should not need to “bone up” on these ratios. You should know them by rote, and be able to point to instances where you have used these tools.

Still, EY aren’t too picky on who gets in, so I’m sure you’ll be able to bluff it. Most of the failed IBMers there seem to have made a career out of it.

CHR to Supply Chain Expert?? (#16)

There are SCM consultancies which focus on doing consultancy and on hiring for consulting skills. However, E&Y is not a consultancy - it's an auditor and as such hires on the basis of rote learning and book-keeping skills. The only variation is that those in the SCM group are expected to memorise and repeatedly perform supply chain accounting specifically.

Is it really bad at EY? I'm at Acn in Supply Chain and have now gad 3 calls from recruitment consiltants about interviewing there. To be honest it seemed like jumping from one pile if crap to a bigger pile of crap but if I'm misinformed please advise.
