Acners...

Have any of you heard anything about mid year promotions - is there a blanket ban on them given the current economic climate?

It has all gone remarkably quiet. Has anybody got confirmation yet?

This coming week you will be informed of it....understand that the promotion will only be A to C and nothing more....then the normal rank and yank as well as another round of redundancy in June if the market does not pick up

I heard that 'tell day' is being pushed back several weeks to mid March.

Anyone heard a similar tale?

I also don't believe there will be many promotions. I think only those that got a 'top' rating will go up!

I thought promotions would apply from 1 March - if that is correct how can tell day be delayed until after March?

Again with the rumors. They have to tell us before the end of next week - confused is right. I've heard everything from Wed 18th Feb to Fri 27th Feb as being 'tell day'. Will have to wait and see. And yes, it will be very tough and only a few at the top will be lucky enough to get through.

Bob to KWP (#8)

Last year it was Tue 26th Feb.

In 2005 it was Thu 24th Feb.

...and caveat with the boilerplate "Past performance should not be used..."

Personally, I think there will be redundancies, but they will be induced by global reviewing the 2nd quarter submissions from the UK geo unit, and giving the order to take action. I believe they call this "pulling the rigth levers".

So in terms of timing, question is how quickly after quarter-end is global able to review results. As the Analyst call is held approx 20 days after quarter end, I think we should see come activity about two weeks into March. By then HR will have some time on their hands having finished the mid-year promotions stuff.

If they do it on a Friday like last time, that would put us on Friday 14 March.

Just a guess...

Enthusiastic Grad. - keep up with being naive that "Acn...the bestest management consultancy in the whole wide world".

Hope the sooner you wake up and reality and gain some insight into consulting industry and experience the better and faster you'll grow to realise that Acn isn't best in the world and it engages Tiger for marketing purposes. Reality is that if a firm is really that good, the firm doesn't have to spend a cent to engage sportsmen/women for advertising and marketing as clients will approach the firm on their own accord and spread the good service by word of mouths.

Why the h*ll would ACN or any other company (not just consulting) do a round of mid-year promotions ? In general most markets around the globe are still going down, less projects are being sold, etc. Better not do any promotions, postpone them till end of next year and hope the market is a bit more predictable (and more projects in the pipeline).

Definately a case of quality, not quantity.

So, which work enviro would you choose:

a) 60% birds, averaging 50% fitness rating

b) 20% birds, averaging 80% fiteness rating?

I'd choose 60% birds averaging 50% fitness as it lends itself better to my 'play it by number' pulling strategy.

Surely an easy decision....

Listen Shrek, since you don't know the difference between your and you're you probably can't speak very well so the upper quartile wouldn't be within your reach anyway.

You'd be better off having less good looking birds and more of them than a few hotties you wouldn't stand a chance with.

Apparently ‘tell day’ will be Friday and they are still challenging the % of people to be promoted. It might only be the top 17% or so - that is if they don’t decide just to can the whole March promotion round.

Its a tough one for the UK geography to argue with global leadership:

"We want special treatment to allow mid-year promotions, even though we're under performing all other geographies at the moment..."

But hey, at least the UK leadership is trying.

Completely agree with previous poster.

Top rating but not promoted. Why go through the process of accelerated promotion if there aren't any. Of course the excuse will be the global downturn which does have validity, but why p**s off the best performers for what in financial terms is small fry to the firm. Very odd behaviour.

Motivation - well there really isn't any for me at the moment. Meritocracy??? If I'm performing above my level why am I not rewarded for it.

They have royally messed this one up!

What you are complaining about is whether you get a promotion or not ! Look around you - Consulting is about to go into meltdown, Bearingpoint have just gone t*ts up, EDS have given staff a pay cut. And being at the top your unlikely to appear on ACN's sh*tlist anytime soon.
