Options to enable a return to strat consulting

#1 Options to enable a return to strat consulting

Hi guys,

After 2.5 years as an Analyst at a Tier 2 strategy house....I have been made redundant.

I'll be looking at careers with other strategy firms or with in-house strategy teams.

However, if I don't get such a role, I'll have to have a Plan B.

Are there any other career options that I should explore - that would allow me to return to strategy consulting in 2-3 years time?

Thanks very much

Hi,

You could try to make some projects as a freelancer. I know that strategy projects are hard to find, but you could work on organisation issues as long as this is the kind of projects a strategy house could do (I mean no IT crap or process mapping).

If you can't find any suitable project, maybe you could consider doing an MBA?

In which industry are you specialised?

Hi,

Thanks for the advice so far, MBA sounds like a great plan. From those of you who have done an MBA, will the fact that I am currently unemployed hinder my chances to getting to a good UK school e.g. LBS, Judge?

Olivier, I am TMT focused, with an even split of media and telco projects. I like the idea of doing some organisational work, I will look into that.

As with the PA payrise thread. Another example of a consultant totally out of touch with reality

You could subscribe to the contractor corner on this site. There are regularly ads for Telco freelancers (there's one at the moment on business model issue).

Try also http://www.b2e-resourcing.com. They were looking for a media strategy contractor a few weeks ago.

As for a full-time MBA I don't see why being unemployed would be an issue (I did Warwick).
