Cynic

I have a deliberately open-ended question for the forum, so as not to lead or constrain your answers:

How do you know when it's time to find another job?

Mars A Day to Cynic (#1)

When you start asking 'how do you know when it's a good time to find another job?'.

For clarification, do you mean from a market perspective, or from your own perspective, irrespective of market conditions?

If you're asking the question, it's time to start looking (although not the best time to be job-hunting in terms of the market).

I stayed too long at my last employer - I was offered a new role in a different office and thought this would revive my enthusiasm. It didn't.

Sure, run and hide from your problems. That'll add to your personal growth, make you ready to face the real world, get a real job, move away from home, get a girl/boyfriend, earn the respect of your family and friends, etc. Who cares what the PhD is in - just go for it!
