Looking for insider view of Diamond UK

diamante

Am looking for any UK insider views of Diamond Management & Technology Consultants, since I can't find anything up to date on this forum, Vault or Glassdoor, for their London office.

- Good place to work for someone with an IT background who wants to move into strategy?

- Number of days per week travel/client site work and how much of that based in London/UK/Europe/rest of world?

- Social atmosphere?

- Variety of work?

- Big name clients?

- Pay/bonus compared to industry?

- Any other comments?

Thanks.

Activity and hiring in Europe is v.light, which is probably why you haven't heard much. The presence in London is mainly to finish out existing long-term contracts and house hot-desking US consultants, but the plan is to withdraw from the region. If you are working in the UK, it will be on one of the long-term contracts, on client-site 5 days a week - usual mix of exotic locations like Basingstoke and Bromley.

It is ultimately a very IT-heavy firm, so I wouldn't expect [m]any business consulting projects.

Not much of a social scene - as you can imagine, most people are just putting in the hours. There's a fairly open understanding that when Diamond finally pulls out, most consultants will move on to other firms in the UK rather than being relocated to the US.

Work variety is low - serving existing IT (SAP) implementations - rather than selling new work. That's reflected in pay - base salaries consistent with Big 4 but bonus is low since selling in Europe is not incentivised.

Thanks - glad I asked!

Why do you think they're hiring (esp. at entry level), in that case? Doesn't sound like it's a good idea for them to grow. How long til it's all over?

2 cents to diamante (#3)

Presumably they're hiring to replace natural churn and increase efficiency. In the main delivery phase and winding-down a long-term project, you need high leverage (i.e. lots of cheap analysts per expensive manger).

I have to say, that was what the pessimistic/realistic side of me thought too. The optimistic side of me thought that they might be hedging their bets in case more work comes in and they decide not to close the London office after all.

Any idea how long left to go? If 1 or 2 years, could still be worth applying. Guess I wouldn't be in line for much of a redundancy package though...

n/a to WppW (#2)

Just to comment on WppW's post - absolut rubbish in my opinion!!!!!

Diamond has never ever done any SAP implementations - and I have been there a while!

Work is varied ranging from pure strategy assignments to IT strategy stuff (but not at the boxes and pluming level!). Yes, work is predom in the UK, but there are projects in mainland Europe as well and sometime even more exotic than that.

Social scene is great - being such a smallish office, there is a great office culture with lots of social activity.

n/a - what can you tell me about the future of the UK office, as far as you know (or are prepared to guess)?

apple to WppW (#2)

Not sure what firm WppW is thinking of, but it's not Diamond. Diamond don't do SAP implementation work, and they are not winding down their LOndon office - have been making senior-level hires (including partner) in London.
