Career in IT / IT Consultancy worthwhile

#1 Career in IT / IT Consultancy worthwhile

Bluepen

i have recently joined the IT graduate scheme of a large blue-chip. I don’t have a background / degree in IT so I thought the scheme would be a great introduction to IT. But now I am unsure whether IT is a good area to move into. Most of the IT guys here are from 3rd party suppliers, shipped in from India / Poland to work here in the UK, and its made me wonder what the market conditions will be like in 5 – 6 years’ time for IT workers like myself. I am currently in a Business type IT role but I am still having 2nd thoughts.

Anyone in a similar predicament? Any one have any suggestions about a long term career in IT, whether there is one area will be less resistant to off-shoring or on-shoring than others?

Any opinions as to alternative careers is more than welcome.
