possibility to work as a management consultant in london?

#1 possibility to work as a management consultant in london?

Ying

Dear all,

May I ask your professional opinions for my possiblity to work as a management consultant in london, please?

I am very interested to work as a management consultant in London and I think my personality and ability suits it well. However, I am age 34 and I don't have any working experience in UK... and my English is far than perfect.. those things make me feel unsure if I can be employed by a well reputation consultant company in london.

I have just graduated and got my MBA degree from an UK school(a middle range one but I get merit in strategy and account; moreover, distinction in entrepreneurship). I am a hard working person and I get used to work for 12 hours per day. I think I am very good to analyse things and solve the problems according to my past working experiences. I have 7 years working experiences in IT sales(product included IC design, mouse, keyboard, server and workstation) and I am very good to sell products and build relationship with customers. India, whole Europe, Japan and China are main markets that I was in charge before; therefore, I was travel to those areas and meet customers to win more profits for customers and my company. Regarding to track record, I can offer some references from my ex bosses. The company that I worked before was Flextronics and my position was a sales assistant manager.

Can I ask your opinion about the possibility that I can be hired as a management consultant in London? And what is the salary range?

Thank you, any comment will be highly appreciated. :-)

Sorry - your english isn't good enough for London in the current market. You could get a job in the UK working for a software firm to improve your english to a more natural communicative style and go from there to a consulting firm if that is what you really like. Alternatively go for a consulting firm in your region's markets, or possibly the middle east (a growth area)

Good luck

sorry, forget to mention that I come from Taiwan. I speak English and Mandarin. I will apply for post study worker visa in Nov, 2008 and it will allow me to work and stay in UK for another 2 years. I hope I can work as management consultant for a long period( over 5 years); so I really hope that I can work in a well reputation consultant company in london.

Any suggestion, please feel free and let me know it.

Thank you for all contribution.

All the best. :-)

Not software company, select a company that sells services as these are all outsourced. You will then fit right in with the general malaise in terms of poor english. Your results will not then be judged on your communication skills as your customers will never speak directly to you.

How rude! I am also a foreigner (Italian) and have been working as a Management Consultant in London for a few years. I have an international client base and often speak to my clients in Italian, Spanish, English or Swedish as required.

I do agree that a minimum level of English is required. However, this can be gained by spending a few weeks in London and liaising with British (the few left in London..). I doubt one could learn English by working in an outsourcing services environment.

My advice to Ying is: Get your English in order and start sending applications. You will be then ready to speak English at the interview!

Good luck!
