What is PA’s reputation in finance transformation?

#1 What is PA’s reputation in finance transformation?

Job hunter

I am interviewing for PA Consulting, in a finance transformation / outsourcing role. I have been told that PA are making progress in selling lots of finance shared services work in the private sector. Is this true? What sort of client list do they have?

The finance transformation group sits within BOP. I’ve done a search on here for BOP, and I'd like to know why it is that BOP gets a very tough time. Is it really so bad? What is the leadership team like?

I hear that strategically PA are focusing on more private sector work as present ;)

I had a look on our internal reporting system the other week and saw that BOP's headcount has gone up this year and it's ahead of last year on budget. Still not a stellar practice, but it would appear there were a small number of people making big noises on here that weren't necessarily representative. Never worked with any of the BOP leadership team so can't say on that point.

PA don't do finance work. Period.

BOP don't do private sector work. Period.

In your interview, ask them who their private sector clients have been over the past year. They might rattle off two or three names, but all of these jobs will be tiny £50k assignments of 1 - 2 people working for 4 - 6 weeks, with no follow on work.

If you want to do interesting private sector work in finance, try one of the the advisory arms in the private sector.

BOP will really only offer you generalist process mapping work for some obscure part of local government.

The BOP partner group are great at making noise about how wonderful BOP are, but haven't sold a penny in the private sector in the past 6 months

With the litigation following on from the farce of the missing memory stick, anyone joining PA Consulting can wave goodbye to any bonus or payrise for the next few years.

Why not try a decent employer instead?

BOP leadership team was pretty weak when I was there, as noted above selling work in the private sector was a bit of an issue as was anything that wasn't process mapping. Some capable MC's but the partner group needed/needs to be stronger.

A number of internal initatives never really got off the ground, that said if you look around in PA (e.g. other BTG practices) there is some interesting work to be had.

I think you misunderstand PA's business and operating models.

I agree the statement should have read:

"With the litigation following on from the farce of the missing memory stick, anyone who isn't a Partner at PA Consulting can wave goodbye to any bonus or payrise for the next few years."

I think you fail to understand the concept of professional liability insurance, or the legal concept of proportionalism.

Thanks everyone for your views

I had heard that PA's finance transformation offering was pretty weak, so this has just confirmed my suspicions.

In the know to Job hunter (#11)

If you wish to understand the organisation, its leadership team and where, what and how it is targeting business growth why not talk to those that know rather than waste time engaging with those on this site.

Enlighten us please to In the know (#12)

Why has PA made a significant investment in this site over several years (EXAMPLE: JOB ADS) if it is a waste of time?

Anyone know if Ex-BOP's clarity of vision still holds true today? Any predictions on this in the short term future?

Who in the leadership can answer what it is targeting business growth?
