Hi, I have 1st round interview for the strategy service line at accenture (Australia) and am wondering if anyone can give me some advice. Specifically I am living in New Zealand at the moment and although they do not usually hire NZ grads they have made an exception to allow me to do the interview by telephone, I am guessing this means they are keen? Also I have interviewed with them before (when they had a NZ office) and did quite well does anyone know if the 1st 2 rounds are behavioural like for the standard analyst positions, any help would be much appreciated.

Nick,
Make sure this is the firm that you really want to go to. Accenture has de-emphasized Stategic Services and over-emphasized BPO (Business Process Outsourcing). It is obvious that they are "betting the farm" on the outsourcing market. There are many more firms that are better in the strategy area than Accenture.... and they pay a lot better.

Hi Nick.
Congrats on getting an interview with Accenture. I too am in NZ and looking for a similar role, having just recently completed my undergrad degree from Auckland Uni. How did you find applying to Accenture? Did you just apply through their regular channels or did you try something else? Do let us know. And good luck in your interview mate.

Panther, I applied through their website, apparently they no longer recruit from NZ. Strategy positions don't seem to come up at Accenture very often so I guess it was just good timing. Good luck with your search.

Panther, I applied through their regular channel ie their website, as I said they apparently no longer recruit applicants from NZ. They seemed quite surprised that I was applying from NZ. Strategy positions don't seem to come up very often at Accenture so I guess I was just lucky. In regards to what to emphasize in your application I have interviewed with them before and would recommend emphasizing innovation, leadership, critical thought etc. Their interviews (for PDP) are largely behavioural so make sure you have some good stories. Hope this helps. Nick.

Hi Nick
Thanks for that. Just wondering, what sort of grades did u get? I ask only coz I've got a few shockers in my degree that just nose dived my GPA. I'm keen to know if that will seriously compromise my chances. Having said that, I won't really know until I apply. But, nevertheless, some external input is always useful. Cheers.

Hi again Panther, I have a BCom first class honours in Management and a B.A in economics from the University of Otago, my average for both these degrees is about an A-. Having said this I have had a few shockers including a C+ in my first year and a b- in my 2nd year, as well as one or two B's and a few B+'s, over all more A's and A+'s than B's though. I also started up my own company which I think looks good on my C.V. I had my screening interview today and it went well, i'll let you know what happens if I progress.

Hey Nick,
I can tell u one thing. Your average is extremely good. Good luck bro.

Nick, I just got an offer with Accenture in Canada (Yay!). I just recently finished the third round interview - which is long. The second round interview is not bad. I think what they are looking for is someone who has a lot of social experience, and is very well rounded and mature. Have you worked? If you have, draw on that experience and make sure you get the idea across that you have been exposed to many different situations (conflict, etc.) and were able to deal with the situations effectively. Above all stay calm, the second round interview is fast paced (you are timed). They are looking to see how you react to particularly stessful situations, and what "life" experience you have. They tell you you cannot prepare, but you can. THink about all the good and bad situations you've been in (deadlines, stress, accomplishments how you dealt with these, etc)and write down some points, that way you will have the ideas fresh in your head, and you won't be caught off guard. Good luck!
