Pip White

Hi

I have found this website useful in my research into entering into a consultancy career. What I need is some advise in what the best move is for me to fulfil my chosen career path. I am urrently a senior manager in a marketing consultancy within the UK and was wondering if anyone out there could give me some advise as to how to get into a consultanct firm (preferably one of the big 5) withib the UK. Will I be able to do this - i.e. is it realistic and I have been recommended to study for an MBA?

Can anyone help?

Thanks Philippa

Hi pip

this is a bit cheeky as you are asking for help, but I would like to get into Marketing consultancy, I worked in a small one this summer in Manchester but got to work on the brand strategy of some blue chip clients- developing consumer insights etc. I graduated with a 2:1 Managemet MA(Hons) in June from the University of St Andrews and am currently doing an Msc at UMIST with a semester abroad to Bocconi University, Milan. I really want to get into marketing consultancy and am doing my dissertation on international marketing strategies. Please could you give me some advice... who do you currently work for and are there any grad positons. thaks so much. n

I am engineering graduate with software experience and now done my MBA. I am trying to enter into the field of Consultancy with the Big 5 in the Middle East. I would really appretiate if anyone could throw light on what it takes to get an entry into the consultancy industry and how life would be in it.

Hi Nimi

Its difficult to get straight into a marketing consultants role without having hands on experience (I have worked my way up through the ranks to get to this level over a period of 5 years). However my advice to you is to join a meduim size agency that focuses on strategy and deployment, they will give you hands on experience as well as an opportinity to get into the more strategic consultants role. It is very unlikey that you will go direct into a consultant role without any hands on experience. Speaking from experience I have found this the best route and the hands on experience has given me the capability to talk at a variety of levels. We currently dont have any graduate opportunities but I suggest you start contacting the medium sized agencies to see if they have any fast track roles for you to be considered for. I would also suggest that you consider the CIM Post Grad Dimploma as this is becoming a more recognised strategic marketing qualification. Good Luck and shout if I can be of any further help,

Pip

Hi Pip, thanks a lot for your advice. It makes sense, I don't suppose you have names of any medium size firms I could contact?!

thanks in advance...

Hi Nimi

There are hundreds of agencies all over the UK - some are really bad and some are great it depends where you prefer to be based?

I would suggest digging about on the Internet you will get a feel straight away if an organisation offers a good level of marketing consultancy, and then get in touch wuith them. I've had a quick scount on the Internet and there are hundreds of lists of agencies in the UK its just picking out the ones that are going to be able to support your aspirations,

Good Luck!

Pip

very easy, all you need is tuns of willing power, self confidence and good people to support you. If you beleive in yourself, then you just hit the pot, as we at MnM international have vacancies.

Caveat Emptor

As a former member of CBS I strongly advise that you do not touch them with a barge pole! It was an expensive waste of my hard earned money.
