Doctor to farmer to dancing busker sleeping rough to consultant

#1 Doctor to farmer to dancing busker sleeping rough to consultant

Befuddled

I need advice:

I was originally trained as a doctor (i.e., brain surgeon, specifically), but decided I didn't like cutting people open. I did acquire a bit of capital in my years as a doctor, however.

I chose to leverage my cutting skills to farming, where I cut open the soil with farming equipment and planted a variety of grains. After a substantial investment, my venture was unsuccessful and I was wiped out.

Penniless, I then chose to leverage my dancing skills as a busker. Yes I'm sleeping rough, but instead of cutting people or the earth's crust open, I'm cutting a rug.

So my question is: can I cut it as a management consultant? Any kind of management consultant, but preferably Tier Nought....which I suppose is higher than Tier 1.

I have a craving for the external validation of my career choices, so the opinions of you, the anonymous humble readers of this board, are essential to me.

My move into homeless dancing busking was precipitated by a post I once made to a homeless dancing busking career website, and everyone on it said I should definitely pursue a career as a homeless dancing busker.

So don't mince about, and cut to the chase...

I know a few guys from IBM who have followed similar career paths, why not give them a try?

Befuddled to anon (#2)

Thanks for the advice.

Just finished my morning jig and raised a few pence. After I catch my breath, I'll give Big Blue a shout.

Glad to hear they have individuals with my background - I thought I was the only one.

And I forgot to mention - I've developed a program in COBOL/DB2/AS400 which enables me to capture and store the transcriptions of my improvisational dance steps that I've created during my short busking career. It's good to have them for posterity.

I realize that dancing and coding appear like two radically juxtaposed skill sets, but the dancing will likely help me in the sales process (I'll need someone to help with the singing) and the coding can help with the delivery.

Of course if I screw everything up I might need those dancing shoes again....

Career Guidence Honcho to Befuddled (#3)

I think you are going down the wrong road with consulting. I think you ought to become a minor celebrity and get yourself on one of those dancing with the star shows and have a high profile affair with your dance partner. Sell your story to the tabloids and well... your life is made! You can then go on to be a page 3 boy or girl!

Mars A Day to Befuddled (#1)

Living on the streets as a busker as you are, inevitably you will encounter drug abuse, violenceetc, which lends itself to specialising as an insustainability consultant; you could develop your own niche advising companies on how to destroy themselves.

I still think you should call IBM, but offering your new services.
