#1 Doctor trying not to get into consulting

David

I am a surgeon based in a major London teaching hospital. I love my work, but would appreciate advice on how best to avoid entering the MC industry.

Thanks

anon to David (#1)

Hi David, that's easy, just ask questions about work life balance, travel, hours, pay and so on and I'm sure that will keep you at bay! Best regards, anon.

bad advice to David (#1)

You should start out with some manageable steps, such as avoiding reading industry and business press. Try not to pick up the FT a couple of times a week.

You will find it harder to avoid entering the MC industry as a consultant specialising in the NHS/healthcare sector, than as a generalist.

You should seriously consider not doing an MBA, MPA or specialist Masters in Healthcare Administration as these can only help with bridging the knowledge gap.
