Can I void my new contract before I start the new role?

Hi all

I'm looking for some advice. I've been made an offer my a consultancy which I'm fairly happy with.

I've handed my notice in with my current company and have to work 3 months notice, so my start date with the consultancy firm is in a few months.

Here's my dilemma. I've got another job interview during my notice period, and to be honest this would be my preferred job if I was successful.

If I sign the contract now with the firm that have offered me a job, but then get offered the other one before I start, can I just scrap the contract? What are the consequences? Will they make me join and work my 3 months notice?

If anyone had had a similar experience I'd like to know your thoughts, or anyone else with advice.

Think before you type. I don't mean to be rude (oh hold on, I do), but how in God's name are they going to MAKE you come in and work your 3 months notice?!!!!

I think contracts for services are slightly different to normal contracts, in that they can't really be enforced... don't quote be on that though, but worth researching.

Hence the reason why I'm asking on here. And yes obviously they cannot physically make me work 3 months for them, but I can't be bothered with any hassle, so I need to be sure.

Anyone else with some advice?
