University Reputations

John

Could anyone give me the top 5 universities consultancies like to recruit from? - Would they prefer Loughborough over UMIST or vice versa? Thank you.

John - You ask for the top 5. Not easy. Whilst Oxford and Cambridge are in it, the LSE, Imperial, York, Nottingham, Warwick, the Open University, UCL and Loughborough (yes!) all jostle for inclusion. The so-called Russell Group of about thirty 'older' universities are usually thought of as the better schools, but individual courses at certain lower-ranking universities are highly regarded, eg Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire. Perhaps as important is the class of degree you achieve, and the subject you study. It's difficult to generalise.

Yours Don Leslie/BLT

It really depends on what the consultancy is looking for from a hire - from the point of view of a strategy consultancy looking to recruit undergrads, if I had a limited budget and was looking for the top 5 places to spend my recruitment cash, I would say Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, LSE, A N Other. I really don't feel that the strategy consultancies have the information to know about which courses are strong at the lower-ranked universities. Also, let's be honest, the boutiques are intellectual snobs and we're looking for people with 3As or better (I can say that 'cos I'm from one)...
