Becoming an independant contractor...

Soontobefree?

Guys

I currently work as a consultant for one of the big five firms. I've been with them since I left college, 4 years ago. I am primarily focussed in IT systems development and integration most recently using the Oracle product set.

I am thinking about becoming an independant contractor in this area. Has anyone done something similar?

What are the pros and cons of becoming a contractor?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Hi Neville

Can you expand a bit on your comment? Have you been a contractor before and are now back as an employee?

Thanks a lot

Alex

Before make the big step you should ask yourself several cuestiosns and make some marketing research. For example : 1. How are the incomes at the company you are working, do they have enought projects?. 2. How is your networking?. 3. Who and why will contact you?. Make a cuestion's list of all the obstacules you may have and then make a plan and budget to avoid them. Then take a desicion. Remember, you are selling yourself.
