Roland Berger Kiev (Ukraine)

Di

I have decided to add some comments as there are almost nothing exist as to Consulting firms outside US and UK.

I had an interview with Roland Berger Kiev Office last week. An interview itself was over 3 hours with junior consultant and consultant. It was 2 rounds at the same time. I believe that they were interested to see you under stress. This week I have received a rejection, which was quit unusual. They were pointing out how good and highly valuable to them my qualifications and by no way I should take it as judgments of my abilities and so on. This makes me believe that I got a rejection due to the fact that I am a female. I believe so as in the office itself I haven't seen any females apart from translators and secretaries and HR (who did not interview me). On the interview itself they kept pointing out that there long working ours, travel....so it is bad for family life and hints like this, as well as no proper reasoning was given to me in rejection letter.

Personally, I was shocked that European company would behave like this. What was the purpose of inviting me for an interview if they didn’t plan to employ female!!!

Have you ever thought it might be the fact that you didn't make the grade. Your qualifications may have been enough to get you foot in the door but your interpersonal skills might have been poor?

Its very easy to reach decisions about why something happened that ignore your own weaknesses

It may have been sexism but you have no way of knowing. It may just be they had stronger candidates.

Maybe all their female consultants were out bringing in business

Did not want to offend anyone even from Roland Berger, maybe it is just a case in Kiev Office.

I don't think it is what I've done on interview as in rejection letter clearly stated 'Our decision is not based on any lack of skills on your part...' 'Your application gives us a very positive impression of your personality'...

I would of taken it easier if it was luck of some skills on my part. I agree that noone is perfect, but I simply don't see what I could of done wrong. There was about 5 cases if I remember correctly and maybe I haven't done it on 'A' but for someone without MBA I believe I've done it well.

The choice of words in rejection letter does not indicate that I have not succeed in the interview.

I hope this is just my impression and it is not how it works in this office.

Dear arrogant lady,

Despite you having excellent interpersonal skills, ample qualifications and all of the required experience we could possibly require, we just didn't like you very much. Sorry.

Kindest Regards,

Kiev Office

Have you just considered that a better candidate came along? Or that your personality fit wasn't quite right? Or your grammar wasn't up to scratch "I simply don't see what I could of done wrong". Or, and I think this is far more likely, you're just quite arrogant and it shone through "This week I have received a rejection, which was quit unusual" (sic) "I agree that noone is perfect, but I simply don't see what I could of done wrong".

I think you should get over yourself.

As I stated earlier I did not want to offend anyone, I am also sorry if I came across as arrogant person, even if it just by this post or otherwise.

I believed that one of the purposes of this forum is honest discussion without prejudice. This is a reason why I have posted my opinion here and just wanted to see what others think. This was simply my opinion and not a statement of fact, which was mentioned in my original post.

As you can imagine I had a good opinion of RB otherwise why would I apply? I am also very glad that you have found a good candidate for the job as this is what matters for the company.

As for me I very well know my weaknesses and arrogance was never one of them; maybe I should rethink how I express myself if this is the impression you had. Otherwise, I would like to thank RB for the experience as in general I have enjoyed it.
