...bodyshopped!

valuableresource

recently i moved from a big4 it consultancy in the sap area to a competitor for the common reasons: higher position, decent raise etc....

however when i started by work i realized that i was not staffed on a project but that i have been sold to a client together with some other collegues as part of a bodyshopping deal. the least i can say now is that i hate my work now, it is just sap implementation work with none of the things i liked in my work before like blueprinting, managing teams or workstreams, working as a team etc....everybody is just working totally on his own now, no team, no structure, just clicking the right buttons and functioning as a machine.

I feel cheated and I am already considering moving on as I want to some "real" consulting work like having a mission, working and pulling together as a team, collaborating with client resources etc....i think this is not too much to ask for right?

Did anybody of you come across such a situation before and if yes, how did you handle it? Any thoughts appreciated, thanks in advance.

Mars A Day to valuableresource (#1)

Leave. Sounds horrendous and potentially career suicide.

You say you have moved to a competitor this presumably means another Big 4 company. As you are earning more and have a higher grade it was a good move - I have done the same thing. Of course when you are new you need luck and you have had bad luck and got a bad project. HOWEVER, I would not suggest leaving again it will not look good moving so soon. Surely you can try to move projects, I assume there are some decent projects at your new place.... you must be able to negotiate an internal move?

reality to Workshy (#3)

Its the nature of consulting and why it differs so much from industry. You are on a project now you aren't happy with but could be on another project in 6 months you love. Its not a project for life.

Suck it up, do the graft, show willing then try and develop new options for yourself and a better project when you have a good contact network in the company.

We cant be on great projects all the time and certainly not when you are fresh in.
