Blaine Welch

To whom it may concern,

I'm a 27 year old U.S. Naval Intelligence Officer with an MBA and a love of foeriegn languages. I want to get into the consultancy field. What does it take? I have no contacts. I'm educated and have first rate managerial experience.

Regards,

Blaine Welch

Blaine,

A couple of pointers

- Don't be put off not having contacts - we all have some and people buy solutions and if you have what they need that's a great start. Write down a list of everybody you know and their connection/ role and you will find you have the framework for a network - the rest you can build over time and a lot of hard work.

- Invest in some training and look at putting together a package of goods and services you could offer to organisations. For example in 12 months time after a succesful consulting year you could offer training courses to people coming out of the services who aspire to consulting.

- Don't focus too heavily on where you have been consider what you can do for organisations - ie what is in your skill set that could be marketed to generate revenue. You'll be surprised once you start at how ideas will develop.

- A good start could be to go to the Hardel Consulting web site - they offer a one day course for new / aspiring consultants. The address is www.highprofitconsulting.com.

Let me know if you need any more information

Regards

A
