Will degree result matter after first job?

Cocacola

Hey all,

I graduated a few months ago and unfortunately ended up with a 2:2. I had a number of difficulties but the major consultancy (it begins with "A" allegedly) have been considerate and still offered the place to me.

I have been enjoying my time so far. However, say if, hypothetically, things don't work out in the way I want my career to span and I decide to leave, will other companies hold the 2:2 against me (regardless of my time at the forementioned consultancy)?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Mars A Day to Cocacola (#1)

Depends on how long you are in the role and what you achieve doing it. Put simply, if you leave within a short time you are likely to find yourself explaining away the 2:2 all over again - possibly to a less sympathetic audience. Give it 2 or 3 years in a top consultancy and frankly noone will care too much (assuming you are not thinking of applying to MBB).

Here's a thought - this major consultancy has been considerate enough to offer you a place despite your 2:2 degree, no doubt through consideration of your abilities and whatever mitigating factors affected your studies; why not do yourself a favour and repay the consideration with a little loyalty and commitment for the next 2 years and THEN start to consider next steps?
