Hi

I am from India . The grading in my country is as per the percentage like 75 % out of 100 % . But I have seen in UK it is 2:1 , can some one tell me what 2:1 means. And what is highest grade which one can have in UK education. Because I am topper of University. I have 72 % marks .But while applying to UK companies I am not able to conevrt this rating. Please help me with it.

Thanks

Randhir

Randhir,

In the UK the classification of your degree is (in descending ordeer):

1st , 2:1 , 2:2 , 3rd , Fail

It's hard to put percentages to these but normally a university will decided it's grade boundaries so that (say) the top 10-20% get a first, the next 40 - 50% get a 2:1 etc.

At my university, over 70% would probably have got you a first, over 60% a 2:1.

Hope this helps. Quoting where you came in the class might help as well - and also a lot is dependant (especially in consulting) on the standing and reputation of your university and course.

Hope this helps

Neil

HI

Hey thanks IrishNeil Thanks for giving me information in detail. U have explained me very clearly. I just want to verify that , Since I am topper in college and university I stood first in 1000 students by securing 72%. This means that when I apply for company I ahould mention 1st or soomething else ?

Thanks

Randhir

Ed

just to clarify on the previous post, 72% would count as a 1st. As far as I know, all British universities have the same system these days whereby 70%+ is a 1st, 60-69% a 2:1 and 50-59% a 2:2
