Question for "Taxman"

#1 Question for "Taxman"
23/08/2007 15:49

anon

I am considering contracting and am confused about the tax arrangements.

I am not prepared to go down the umbrella route, and would like to set up my own Ltd Company but am finding it difficult to get clear answers on the tax implications – even from my accountant. I have also consulted direct gov.

Specifically, my understanding is that for a turnover of £100,000:

T/o100,000

Vat on flat rate scheme adds 4.5% to t/o giving total revenue of:

104500-

10000 Expenses

94500

18900 (94500 * 20%)Corporation tax

75600

This is where I get confused. Of the 75600 remaining, if I pay myself a salary of 13,000 and take the rest as dividends, how much total tax would I pay (including Corporation tax, PAYE and tax on dividend income)?

Thanks in advance!!!

1) try: http://www.whitingandpartners.co.uk/Content/Company_v_Sole_Trader_Tax_Comparison.htm

2) you must still charge your customer 17.5% vat. the flat rate scheme just determines how much you pay to taxman.

3) you can ignore vat for taxman OR count vat as an expense. i think the tax works out the same or similar.

4) limited company only really helps if you are outside IR35.
