Hi,

I have a final round assessment centre with syntegra and was wondering if anyone had any tips for the day and knows what the team exercises are. Also if anyone works for them or has worked with them, their opinion on syntegra as a consultancy.

Cheers

Hi there - what aspect of consultancy are you applying for, Change Management, Process or Technology, as the approach will differ. You will be asked to do a presentation and some case study work if you are sucessful.

It is a great consultancy to work for if you are looking for a bit more work life balance and working in the local government arena Good Luck!!

Hi T,

I just got a position as part of the Business Stream for Syntegra starting in September 15th. The assessment day consisted of 2 group exercises and one written exercise preparing a business plan/case study. In addition, there was one interview with someone senior and a chance to ask questions informally with recent grads.

Hope this helps and good luck,

R.

I worked for Syntegra for between 2 and 5 years in the late 1990s. I found the culture to be one based on "management by fear" with only recently joined staff happy and content. The MD - Halbert - seldom spoke to staff and you were treated with disdain. As ever, the actual work was fine, it was just the company that messed things up. Too many of the old BT people around - too little new culture. Also the salaries were pretty average against the marketplace. Good when hired and then not much thereafter. Therefore inconsistencies. They need to be out of BT and with a new MD. Sad. "Without Prejudice".

Syntegra is not really a consulting organisation, it uses consultants to specify IT projects. They have little stregth in depth and you will find that the few experts are too busy to help you. It is also highly risk averse and very slow to follow the market. If you want to see what they are really like ask them about their organic growth and customer retention since 1991 and the proportion of their revenues that comes from selling trading systems to banks. While there are many exBT people about, I don't think Syntegra's problems stem from them - during my years there, the management team were hopeless. I hear that BT has finally grasped that nettle, but don't know the new guy. Like BT Syntegra is very political and inwardly focused. My tip to anyone applying to Syntegra would be " Try somewhere else ".
