Does the offshore models really work? Should UK IT firms be worried?

Yes they should be worried. I work for a UK systems integrator and we recently submitted a bid using offshore staff. The price differential was incredible and we couldn't succeed on the bid with a single member of onshore staff.

Actually analyst data show US firms are seeing offshore IT as very disappointing as the cost offsets are no longer as wide a gap, making the overall ROI difficult. Executives are slowing realizing the hassles, cultural, and time differeneces and lack of due diligence of work quality to minimize long term total cost of ownership is proving to not be the smart way of implementing mission critical strategic IT solutions. Individual contributor tactical tasks are appropriate as Indian resources often manage to deliver something last second that will work, but often does not scale or provide good runtime performance, nor do they tend provide a comfort level or visibility into the progress of the project and that the schedule will be met.

Hi

No UK It firm should not worry , becoz offshore model is just a model to work on recession . The main reason is becoz of cheap salary labour it is doin well. But once good economy period comes it will start losing its grip . So be cool and Relax.

Thanks

What is the matter with the people who are doing these things? Do you not understand that by eliminating $30 Billion in salaries in the U.S. they are devistating an already hurting economic climate? What about the people who will loose their jobs? already have lost their jobs? What do you intend to do about that? You are so happy to save so much money for your company - how do you expect Americans to be able to purchase prodcuts or services without having jobs? This is just plain stupid. We have given away the farm already. Now we are giving away the infrastructure too. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. When are we going to learn that the rest of the world laughs at us for giving away what makes us able to excel. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.
