i graduated last year with a degree in sports science from loughborough uni. i took some time out and now really want to get in to management consultancy. the first place i applied was accenture and got an interview but didnt get to the second round. ive looked at all the big companies but cant help feeling that my degree is pretty unrelated to what they want. do you have any ideas of large reputable consultancy firms that i would have a good chance with? my job at the mo involves I.T and i love the consultancy side of the career.

Forget it.

For every really good job these days there are 300 applicants minimum and at least 10% if not more will be an exact match with the "right" first class degree.

Nearly 60% of degrees are now 1sts or 2:1s. They reckon by 2018, this will rise to 100% on current increases in this level of pass rate!

I would focus on getting into a forward looking company that is running projects and programmes and where you can participate in the delivery of these thus having the benefit of, hopefully, long term employment with a consultant type role and where you can look back at the real difference you have made to a business rather than the transient nature of consultancy.

Good luck!

thanks for your constructive advice. you've kinda confirmed my thoughts about it. although il stil keep applying to the consultancy firms for experience, i'm kinda back at the start. - oh well at least there are loads more jobs out there! dont ya just hate trying to get your first graduate job! so small companies are the way to go? - any names spring to mind??
