which consultancy Marks & Spencer used to help achieve their turnaround?

TL

Does anybody know which consultancy Marks & Spencer used to help achieve their turnaround? Everyone claims to have worked with them (now that they have re-emerged successful) but who is really key to help them with the transformation?

All the big timers mentioned above worked with them...But I believe it was the small timers called 'Bluerock Consulting' who pulled the strings. They are all ex-Acn/PwC/KPMG etc senior folk who hit the glass ceilings at senior manager levels...

As far as I know they used to work with dozens of consultancies, but their new CEO Stuart Rose has turned them all out as they demoralised his own people. The was a good article by him in HBR but it's for subscribers only now.

They used McKinsey in part - I worked briefly on the project

I worked at MnS for couple of years . Its not IBM, Accneture etc.. Mr.Rose was able to revamp the business (i.e buying cheap and selling for a premium , refit the shops and introduced new and attractive lines) . Just he applied some basics of retailing

It's one of those questions like "who did the network cabling for canary wharf?"

Almost everyone has their logo in their sales powerpoints

Who's still got their hands up now that M&S aren't doing so well against their peers in the retail sector????????

Bothered? I think you will find they are!

In spite of the slowdown, Marks and Spencer’s shares rose 1.4 per cent to 641.5p after Mr Rose managed to beat forecasts of a 1 per cent rise in like-for-like sales. Pre-tax profit consensus was unchanged at £1.08bn for the year to March 2008.

Rod Whitehead, analyst at Deutsche Bank, said: “Two per cent underlying growth when you have 25 per cent of the stores being refurbished and the worst May weather in 40 years and the worst ever June is pretty good.”

General merchandise sales, which include clothing and home, rose 2.9 per cent during the quarter. On Tuesday, the British Retail Consortium said overall high street sales had risen 5.1 per cent in June

So 2.9% against the High St. average of 5.1%?

NB* One analyst's view does not make a market. Check out their recent share performance against that of their peers. Worse still Mr. Rose does not appear to be looking to hang around much longer.
