I am relatively new to the professional life, having graduated what seems like a very short year ago from Washington State University with a computer science degree. I went straight from high school to college, and am now heavily in debt from student loans. During my time as an employable US citizen I have actively pursued educational and developmental positions ranging from customer service (read: waiter) to the more technical side of computer systems. I have kept myself busy with volunteer positions when no work could be found, most notably when I spent a summer in the local hospital IS department. My dream job is consulting; it fits my analytical personality and creative nature to perfection. I thrive in challenging environments and bore with monotony, neither of which is typical in a consulting atmosphere.
Now then, the point. I'm flat out broke. Can't find a job even in a grocery store as a checker though I send out an extremely broad range of applications every week. I can't even get taken on as a used car salesman! I want to be an impact player. Be someone that makes a difference.
Relatively speaking I have minimal qualifications to put down on a resume. My Dream is eroding away faster than I can rebuild it and my question is: Who is hiring people like me and what is the BEST way to get in front of them?
