PA Consulting or Braxton?

#1 PA Consulting or Braxton?

Stefan

I am considering to work as a strategy consultant (manager level) for either PA Consulting or Braxton in Scandinavia, and would like to get some feedback on the pros and cons for each of these firms. I have been in previous contact and have an established relation with both firms, but would at this point need outside views. Pls commment on issues such as quality of client base and work, personal development track, prestigue, market outlook for the firm, etc. Any type of comments would be helpful.

I used to work at PA a couple of years ago but can't speak about Braxton. PA is a highly reputable consulting firms and its main areas of strengths are: UK, Scandanavia and Australia - and more recently the US following an acquisition (though I am not sure how well that has been integrated.

PA has some excellent clients globally - as I am sure do Braxton so not much to choose there. I believe that PA have fared better than Braxton in the current downturn with very few layoffs.

In terms of strategy work neither PA nor Braxton would consider this a core strength. Indeed when I was at PA the strategy practice was the worst performing in terms of Utilisation/Profitability though that could have changed since. Most of the work is in implementation Personally I would choose PA - they have a great track record and are probably slightly better regarded in the marketplace (not having being spun out of an audit firm.

Good luck

contrary to the opinions of John, PA are a bunch of monkeys while Braxton is a top-notch, world-class organisation.

In what sense do you mean that Braxton is a world-class organisation while PA is the complete opposite? Please elaborate and give examples.

ExPA to John B (#2)

John,

And there was me thinking that PA closed its Australian operation down in 2007, leaving some staff who had moved there effectively stranded

Tony Toni Tone to anon (#8)

Despite Unbreak My Heart, Braxton went bankrupt.

As for the other one, never heard of them.
