Hi all, I'll be starting a career with ACN at analyst level soon. I've been placed in the FS group at the Manchester office UK. I am currently weighing up any options I have and would like any advice from this forum.

Where are the current major FS projects for ACN?

How much travelling is involved as a ball park figure, is it similar or less than other groups? Would other people recommend ACN as a company?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are starting soon then why do you need recommendation guess you already know what you want for you to be starting soon, guess you might be among those starting next week or soon so i dont think you need any recommendation.

Maybe I wasn't clear. By starting soon I meant in several months time. I have been offered the contract but am currently weighing up my options. That is the reason for my asking advice from experienced people. I won't hide the fact that I am concerned by the huge level of negativity surrounding ACN at the moment and also by the number of people leaving within the first few years of employment. Any advice?

Gatcha.... The truth for me is that many people with negative views are not doing anything much those doing something fruitful are not busy writing negative stuffs. That said again I am not saying that there are no negative stuffs but not as it is presented and moreover even if you were to work in your dads company you might end up having negative feelings, but that doesnt make it a bad place for your cousin to be since may be he/she are enjoying working there and gaining something.

So dont listen to all the negative comments and let that make you start with a negative frame of mind but start on a high note high morale and know what you want from day one try to get it and plan your next move, is a coporate environment we have vultures, eagles and doves so depending on whose victim you are you will have bad and good days but that those not call for so much negativity. Again this is my view and I have enjoyed my career this way and I hope you enjoy yours and dont listen too much to heresay but again no that is not always a bed of roses. I will leave you with this saying "where you go and dance and get cheers for the dance, I might go and dance and get boood for the same dance i did" So if others have a negative experience how about those that are enjoying the place you might be one of them.

So in your opinion Baktar, it's still a good (or atleast, not a bad) place to start a career? Are things going to ocntinue to get better regarding promotions, salaries etc over the coming years (in your opinion!)?

Cheers

I think so. It is a huge company with multiple layers of organisation, they do a huge variety of work. The right work will not fall into your lap though, you have to be pro-active in figuring out where you want to be.

There is a lot of negativity on this board but I think a lot if that is from people doing pretty low level stuff within BSI (Systems Integration) within a market group they have no particular interest in.

There are plenty of interesting opportunities within the market groups themselves and in the OG agnostic (not aligned to a specific market) areas (technology strategy, marketing sciences etc...).

The new UK boss David Thomlinson has pretty much sorted out the pay issues and has brought in more March promotions...so rewards and prospects for progression have improved greatly over the last year.

Of course, you could end up writing test scripts for some siebel implementaiotn for 2 years....you have to market yourself internally to get the best from it.

Hope that helps.

Baktar
